United Wagon Company’s (UWC) TikhvinChemMash plant has successfully delivered a batch of five ‘new generation’ tank cars to Uralchem, one of the largest producers of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizers in Russia.

The cars will be used to transport ammonia and have an enlarged cistern railway tank size of 92.7m3 and load capacity of 60 tonnes.

UWC said that the new tank cars have a service life of up to 40 years and include a shade protection system for ammonia transport with filling temperature as low as -33 °C, built-in drainage and safety valves.

Uralchem director Vsevolod Kovshov said: “Our company is modernising its transport assets.

“To date, the share of up-to-date rolling stock in the Uralchem fleet is about 10 per cent.

“Expansion of the range of specialised railcars helps to improve our logistics work.

“We plan to expand our partnership with United Wagon Company to achieve gradual increase in the share of up-to-date rolling stock in our fleet.”
