Siemens is to supply 67 Avenio trams for Bremen’s public transport operator, Bremer Straßenbahn AG (BSAG).

The new trams will begin replacing the current GT8N series units from spring 2019.

BSAG, which operates the city’s seven-line tram network, has the option to order a further 17 four-car vehicles.

The new trams have regenerative breaking, Wi-Fi and various features to help disabled passengers, including a lift on one set of doors and a colour-coded guidance system for visually impaired passengers.

Jochen Eickholt, chief executive of Siemens Mobility, said: “Following Munich, The Hague and Doha, Bremen is now the fourth city we are supplying with the Avenio.

“Our modular design ensures that the Avenio can be tailored to each city’s particular needs and can also be flexibly used in a demanding infrastructure.”
