New South Wales (NSW) Trainlink is to install Perpetuum’s remote condition monitoring technology on its XPT power cars.

Perpetuum’s wireless, self-powered sensors will collect track and ride information.

It is the company’s first significant contract award for track condition monitoring and will be used to provide important track condition data prior to the introduction of a new fleet, which will replace the ageing XPT fleet in 2019.

Perpetuum said NSW Trainlink decided to invest in remote condition monitoring after receiving reports of poor ride conditions on its regional network.

A performance-based specification in the contract requires that the sensors must operate for five years without requiring power supply system maintenance.
