Judlau, a subsidiary of OHL Group, and TC Electric have been awarded a €447 million contract to repair and upgrade the Canarsie subway tunnel in New York.

Work is being undertaken to both fix the damage cause by Hurricane Sandy in 2012 and improve the L line’s capacity.

The Canarsie tunnel is one of the main rail tunnels connecting Brooklyn and Manhattan.

The 70/30 joint venture between Judlau and TC Electric will carry out civils repairs to the tunnel, including replacing the trackbed, rails and sleepers, as well as replacing electrical and signalling components. The joint venture will also install flood protection systems.
