GE Transportation has revealed the first of 1,000 fully painted locomotives as part of a $2.5 billion supply and maintenance contract from Indian Railways.

The specially designed ES43ACmi freight locomotive has been covered in around 50 gallons of red and yellow paint to represent energy and freshness, according to the United States firm.

Following the competition of the livery, which took place after two months of testing, the locomotive is now being prepared for shipping and will arrive in India later this year.

The full delivery of the 1,000 trains is expected to be complete by 2026.

GE Transportation’s Asia Pacific CEO Nalin Jain said: “It is great to see Indian Railways’ first locomotive emblazoned in the railroad’s ornate paint scheme.”
