Siemens has received an order from DB Regio to build 57 of its new Mireo trains.

The trains are to be built at Siemens’ factory in Krefeld, Germany, from which DB Regio – the local transport arm of DB – will put them into service on the Rhine-Neckar S-Bahn urban rail network, operating on the future S5, S6 and S9 lines.

This is the second order for Siemens’ Mireo since it was launched in the summer of 2016.

Siemens trains CEO Sabrina Soussan said: “This marks a further important milestone for the latest generation of our regional train, the Mireo.

“The Mireo combines a high level of performance, comfortable passenger experience and optimal flexibility over the train’s entire lifecycle.”

Service on routes in the states of Baden-Württemberg and southern Hesse will begin in December 2020.

Service on the Mannheim–Mainz route, largely in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, will begin operation in December 2021.
