Alstom has won an international tender to resignal a section of the Sarmiento line in Buenos Aires.

The €10 million contract covers four stations on the Merlo-Lobos interurban branch: Marcos Paz, General Las Heras, Empalme Lobos and Lobos.

Alstom will act as a subcontractor to Constructora POSE. It will provide system design, equipment provision, supervision and system commissioning.

The contract length is 30 months.

Operated by Trenes Argentinos, the Sarmiento line is one of seven suburban/commuter lines that serve the Argentine capital.

Outside of Buenos Aires, Argentina’s Ministry of Transport is pursuing a wider programme of signalling upgrades around the country, which includes modernising the existing signalling systems and installing new train protection systems.

Michel Boccaccio, senior vice-president of Alstom in Latin America, said: “We celebrate this new Alstom contract in the country, since it is the first contract signed by Alstom in Argentina to provide the signalling system of a surface railway line.

“We look forward to more opportunities to offer our experience and technology to the Argentine transport system.”
