RSSB has come up with a “framework” which it believes will help prospective train operators identify opportunities at stations.

RSSB said the aim of the tool was to allow operators bidding for franchises to be able to access information to aid long-term planning.

RSSB has used the new East Midlands franchise, which is due to begin in 2019, to develop the tool.

The resource includes information about service accessibility, energy use, retail income and value to the community.

The framework will also be made available to councils, Local Enterprise Partnerships and private-sector investors. RSSB is currently working with the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) to expand the framework and make it available to passengers as well.
