Stadler has released an image of the Citylink bimodal tram-trains it is supplying to Spain’s Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV).

The new units are destined for Line 9 in Alicante, which runs between Benidorm and Dénia. They will replace 50-year-old series 2500 diesel trains which currently run on that route.

Able to operate in either electric or diesel modes, the new trains will act as trams on urban sections of the line, such as through Dénia, and under diesel power on the longer sections.

The six new tram-trains will be designed and produced at Albuixech (Valencia) in the factory that Stadler purchased from Vossloh early last year. Deliveries will commence in 2019.

Íñigo Parra, chief executive of Stadler Valencia, said: “We’ve been working with FGV almost since its beginnings 30 years ago, and feel proud to be able to contribute to the development and progress of the infrastructure of the Valencian Community.”

FGV was the Albuixech factory’s first customer for light rail vehicles, purchasing nine in 2003. The 750V DC series 4100 units have been operating since 2006, connecting Alicante with Benidorm.
