State-owned railway infrastructure manager FS Italiane has acquired Dutch operator Qbuzz.
The public transport operator runs tram and bus services in the Netherlands and has been purchased from NS (Dutch Railways) for €30 million through FS’s subsidiary Busitalia.
According to FS, Qbuzz recorded revenues of €210 million in 2016 and has a fleet of 26 trams and 614 buses.
FS Italiane CEO Renato Mazzoncini said: “Busitalia’s acquisition of Qbuzz enables the FS Italiane Group to expand its presence on international integrated mobility markets.

“Qbuzz is currently operating in the areas of Utrecht and Groningen-Drenthe, but we expect to compete in other areas of the Netherlands.
“Today’s closing is a further important step in the international expansion process of FS Italiane, as foreseen by the Industrial Plan 2017-2026.
“We are turning into a major European player of integrated mobility and we are already one of the main market players: first in Italy and Greece, second in Germany and we are present in Great Britain and France.
“The Group’s foreign operations currently account for 13% of revenues. The goal is to pass by 1 to 4 billion turnover by 2026.”
The announcement was made on August 31.
