Russian engineers to help restore Cuba’s railways

Russian Railways subsidiary and engineering firm RZD International has signed a contractual agreement to help restore and modernise Cuba’s railways.

The document establishes the main terms of the contract for the project to restore and modernise the railway infrastructure of Cuba.

By the end of 2017 it is planned that the two parties will sign the estimated €1.9 billion contract.

The agreement was signed between RZD International director Sergey Pavlov and Cuban Railways’ finance director Oscar del Toro Quesada on September 22.

Cuba’s railway network is among the oldest in the world but it has deteriorated over the course of several decades.
