Czech Republic-headquartered Leo Express has become Poland’s first private rail operator following permission to run services on the Krakow – Prague route.
Leo Express said that it marked a “historic moment” for Polish rail passengers as they join the likes of Sweden, Britain, the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Austria and Italy who have benefited from competition.

The operator added that the average number of journeys per capita in Poland is still around 50 per cent of the level achieved in some European countries and that new players can increase the number of rail passengers.
Final technical and formal preparations need to be complete before Leo Express trains can operate on Poland’s railways. A launch date is expected in the next few weeks.
