Spanish rolling stock manufacturer CAF has signed a contract with Stockholm Public Transport (SL) for an additional 12 trams – taking the number of vehicles produced for the Swedish capital to 42.
The light rail vehicles (LRVs) from the new €37 million deal will be delivered from late 2019.

The order includes two four-module Urbos trams for the Lidingöbanan line and ten three-module Urbos trams for the Tvärbana line – of which an extension is due to be operational by 2021.
These trams are bidirectional with low-floors, a top speed of 90km/h and have been adapted to withstand Sweden’s extreme weather conditions with temperatures as low as -40ºC.
In 2010, CAF signed the first contract with the Swedish operator for the production of 15 LRVs. This included an option to purchase up to 121 additional trams. Subsequently, this contract was extended on two occasions: firstly for the supply of a further seven trams and then a second in the first half of this year for another eight units.
