National railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy has said it has developed a programme to construct freight rail cars.
The company’s technical centre director Azamat Zhangeldy said that it wants to update the rolling stock with increased load capacity and a reduction in the weight of freight cars.

He added that this programme will increase the overall fleet capacity, speed, quality of services provided and security of transport.
Technical requirements for freight cars will be approved before the end of this year.
Azamat Zhangeldy said: “The working group is considering options for allocating funds for the production of its own freight cars.
“Within the framework of state support, measures are envisaged to provide preferences to manufacturing plants, import substitution, [and] increase the share of local content.”
