Edinburgh city council is looking to appoint two contractors to deliver the Edinburgh tram extension to Newhaven.

Tendering has been split into two lots: an infrastructure and system contract and a swept path contract.

The infrastructure and systems contract covers the design and construction, testing, commissioning and bringing into service the 4.6km double-track extension to Newhaven, including eight tram stops. It is valued at £90 million.

The swept path contract covers the design and construction of utility diversions and archaeology resolution. That contract is valued at £25 million.

In September, Edinburgh city council approved the outline business case (OBC) for the extension of the city’s tram network to the district of Newhaven. The OBC put the capital costs of the project at £165.2 million – including risk and inflation – with a return of £1.64 expected for every £1 spent.

The council has set December 12 as the deadline for the two lots.
