Ahmedabad Metro orders 96 cars from Hyundai Rotem

Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) has signed a 177.1 billion won (around €137 million) contract for 96 cars with Hyundai Rotem.

The vehicles will be manufactured at the rolling stock manufacturer’s Changwon plant and be delivered from April 2019 until July 2020.

They will have a maximum speed of 80km/h, a capacity for up to 782 passengers and feature CCTV and LCD passenger information screens.

A spokesperson for Hyundai Rotem said: “We have once again proven our global competitiveness in the unmanned driving field with this order.

“We will make efforts to deliver safer and more convenient electric trains for additional orders in the Indian market.”

Hyundai Rotem received its first order from the Indian market in 2001.
