Further €209m contract signed to modernise section of Belgrade – Budapest line

Serbia Railways has signed a $247 million (around €209 million) contract with Russia’s RZD International for the development of the Belgrade – Budapest line.

The deal covers the Stara Pazova – Novi Sad stretch of the railway and is within the framework of a previous deal signed between the two parties, which covers the building of a second track on the 40km stretch and to modernise the existing railway.

The signed document covers the construction of a double-track railway line, three viaducts, a tunnel, 19 bridges and overpasses, as well as 36 smaller bridges.

The new document was signed by the RZD International’s general director Sergey Pavlov and the acting president of Russian Railways.

Work is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2018.
