Listen to this article

Naples city council has awarded a contract to Spanish rolling stock manufacturer CAF to supply 10 six-car trains for the city’s metro system.

The confirmation follows the signing of a provisional award with CAF for a â‚¬90 million framework contract back in June, 2016. This deal also included the option of an additional 10 trains for a period of six years.

The vehicles will operate on Line 1 of the city’s underground and will be delivered during 2019.

Naples is the most densely populated city in the south of Italy with approximately three million inhabitants living in the metropolitan area.

The city has two lines on the metro network, which is operated by ANM (Azienda Napoletana Mobilità), a public company of the Naples City Council which governs the public transport services in the city.
