Canadian engineering giant SNC-Lavalin has appointed a new chairman.

Current vice chairman Dr. Kevin Lynch replaces outgoing Lawrence Stevenson, who has announced his retirement after serving as chair since March 2015 and director since 1999. The change will be effective from January 1, 2018.

Kevin was elected as a director and appointed as vice-chairman of SNC-Lavalin in May, 2017.

He has been vice-chair of the Bank of Montreal Financial Group (BMO) since 2010 and is a member of the board of directors of the Canadian National Railway Company.

Kevin has received honorary doctorates from eleven Canadian universities, was appointed a member of Canada’s Privy Council Office in 2009, and was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2011 for public service.

Prior to joining BMO, Kevin built a distinguished 33-year career in the Canadian Government until his retirement in 2009.

Kevin previously served as Clerk of the Privy Council, Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Public Service of Canada.

Kevin Lynch said: “Lawrence’s long-term commitment as a director and chairman of the board provided great stability to SNC-Lavalin as the company renewed itself and continued to expand. His fellow directors and the SNC-Lavalin Group thank him for many years of successful contributions.

“SNC-Lavalin is a proud, revitalised Canadian company with the potential to be a real world leader in its field, and I am very pleased to become the chairman of its board.”
