Bordeaux Metropole is adding an extra 10 Citadis trams to its fleet to support the third phase of a major extension of the network.

The contract has been valued at around €30 million.

Alstom delivered 26 Citadis trams for Bordeaux between 2013 and 2014. A further 15 units are currently being built in La Rochelle.

Alstom said the new trams will be identical to previous vehicles and will take Bordeaux Metropole’s fleet to 125 Citadis trams.

Bordeaux has one of the largest tram fleets in France and was the first system to request a catenary-free light rail solution from Alstom.

François Papin, Alstom site manager in La Rochelle, said: “This order is excellent news for Alstom and in particular for the La Rochelle site. We are pleased that our historic customer Bordeaux Metropole has once again placed its trust in us.

“A total of 25 trams will be manufactured at our site in 2018/19 with delivery scheduled for mid-2019.”
