State-owned operator Renfe has awarded Talgo a €107 million contract to convert 156 overnight coaches (13 trains) into high-speed trains.
The deal covers the Series 7 units which fall under the Trenhotel brand and also includes an option for an additional 72 coaches (six trains), taking the full value of the contract up to €151 million.

The Talgo Series 7 trains were the first to be designed specifically for high-speed lines.
They can reach speeds of up to 220km/h but after conversion into high-speed trains, they will be capable of travelling at 330km/h.
Talgo said that the contract “reinforces its leadership in the very high-speed Spanish rolling stock market”.
