Bane NOR has penned three major signalling and telecoms contracts with Siemens, Alstom and Thales in Norway.
At a board meeting on March 14, infrastructure manager Bane NOR awarded a €800 million contract to Siemens to upgrade the signalling equipment of the entire Norwegian rail network to the European Train Control System. It also awarded a NOK 2 billion (∼€200 million) deal with Alstom for onboard train equipment.
Bane NOR said that some of its signalling systems date back to the 1950s and are outdated and difficult to replace.

The contracts are due to be signed in April, with work taking place over a 10-year period.
In addition, Bane NOR has signed a NOK 600 million (∼€63 million) contract with Thales for a new traffic management system, replacing three old systems in the process.
The deals are part of the national rollout of ERTMS as Bane NOR invests more than €16 billion in digitisation and automation.
