Bouygues Construction and Colas Rail – a subsidiary of Bouygues – are set to acquire Alpiq Engineering Services, a leading Swiss player in the energy and rail infrastructure sectors.
Alpiq Engineering Services employs around 7,650 people and reported sales of approximately 1.7 billion Swiss francs (∼€1.4 billion) in 2017. It largely works in Switzerland, Germany and Italy.
Colas Rail will acquire Alpiq Engineering Services’ rail activities, strengthening its expertise in the field of catenaries and allow it to develop its presence in Switzerland, Italy and the United Kingdom.
The takeover, which is subject to approvals from European and Swiss authorities and is scheduled to take place in the second half of 2018, will take place on the basis of an enterprise value of 850 million Swiss francs (∼€721 million) – 700 million Swiss francs (∼€594.2 million) for Bouygues Construction and 150 million Swiss francs (∼€127.3 million) for Colas Rail.
Colas CEO Hervé Le Bouc said: “This acquisition will enable Colas Rail to develop in the Swiss and Italian markets in particular, and to strengthen its presence in Central Europe and the United Kingdom.
“Alpiq’s recognised expertise in railway power supply will supplement Colas Rail’s portfolio of solutions and know-how, and will strengthen its leadership as a leading player in the rail sector.”
