The Riyadh metro, a rapid transit system under construction in Saudi Arabia’s capital city, has conducted the first dynamic tests on its Metropolis trainsets.

Alstom is manufacturing 69 two-carriage metro trainsets as part of the FAST consortium, which also includes FCC, Samsung, Strukton and Freyssinet Saudi Arabia.

FAST is one of three consortia that were selected by the Arriyadh Development Authority to build a metro network that would be 176km-long and include six lines. Its €5.8 billion share covers the Yellow, Green, and Purple lines – also known as lines 4, 5 and 6.

The metro trainsets, all of which are expected to be delivered by the end of 2018, are produced at Alstom’s factory in Katowice, Poland.
