Siemens has released photos of the first painted body shell of a new fleet of metro trains for the German city of Nuremberg.
From its factory in Vienna, Siemens is building 21 four-car trains for public transport operator VAG Nuremberg.
VAG Nuremberg ordered the new G1 fleet in 2015 for the city’s U1 line. The contract includes options for up to 13 additional trains.
The new trains will be capable of fully automated operation and the driver’s cabs have been designed so they can be easily removed if needed.
They will also be pre-equipped for fully automated operation, with driver’s cabs designed to permit easy removal.
Delivery of the new vehicles is due to take place by the end of 2018.
