Thales has announced that Polish national rail infrastructure manager Polskie Linie Kolejowe has awarded it two contracts worth a combined €182 million.
The contracts cover the design and delivery of new signalling and traffic control systems, including the implementation of ERTMS Level 2, for line E20 from Kunowice-Terespol and line E30 from Kraków-Rzeszów.
ERTMS/ETCS is a signalling system designed to ensure that more trains can safely travel at higher speeds throughout a network.

The development of line E20 will cover 650km, including 25 stations and five local control centres. For line E30 the development will cover 135km, including 16 stations and two local control centres.
Once work is complete, trains on these two lines will be able to travel at speeds of up to 160km/h.
Thales’ director for Poland Pawel Piotrowski said:Â “Thales has been engaged in the process of modernisation of the Polish railway lines since 1998.
“We’re very glad that PKP PLK has decided to choose our signalling solution and trust us once again. This will let railway passengers take advantage of our high-tech equipment and systems and travel faster while enjoying a high level of safety and comfort.”
