Premier Gladys Berejiklian said: “It is exciting to see the first of the 24 new air-conditioned Waratah Series 2 trains entering the final stage of testing.

“The NSW Government has delivered more than 30,000 additional weekly public transport services since 2011 and on top of that we are ensuring our customers ride in comfort.

“The delivery of these new trains means that all of our customers will be able to travel in air-conditioned comfort across the network.”

Downer EDI was awarded the $1.7 billion train contract in 2016. CRRC is manufacturing the bodies of the new rolling stock in China under the arrangement, with final assembly taking place in Australia.
