Jacobs Engineering has been appointed by Etihad Rail to deliver engineering and design services for a new 900km freight and passenger rail network in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The project is part of the country’s ambitious rail masterplans, which form a crucial part of the planned Gulf Railway linking UAE border countries and major economic centres.

Jacobs’ role will see it oversee detailed designs that will be prepared by a network of design and build contractors, as well as to supervise construction of the entire project.

Jacobs president of infrastructure Bob Pragada said: “We were able to bring together the combined technical resources and synergies of Jacobs and our recently acquired CH2M team that presents a fully-integrated service offering for this world-class rail project.

“This included accessing the best talent across the breadth of our global network, coupled with a strong local presence provided by Jacobs in the UAE.”
