An agreement has been reached by the infrastructure managers of the high-speed railway between London, Paris and Brussels – one of Europe’s busiest routes – to coordinate the rollout of European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS).

Representatives from Channel Tunnel operator Getlink, HS1, SNCF-Réseau and Infrabel have committed to join forces to coordinate ERTMS deployment on the high-speed lines that link the capital cities of England, France and Belgium at a meeting in Paris on July 19.

At the meeting, the four parties committed to share expertise, select a uniform technical system and work to a common deployment schedule.

They hope to deliver cost savings by maximising the economies of scale.

Deploying ERTMS will allow for improved interoperability and better punctuality whilst avoiding obsolescence of current systems and increasing capacity.

The meeting in Paris was attended by: Michel Boudoussier, chief corporate officer of Channel Tunnel operator Getlink; Dyan Crowther, HS1 CEO; Patrick Jeantet, president of SNCF-Réseau; and Luc Lallemand, CEO of Infrabel.
