Latvian Railways launches €425m electrification works package

Phase 1 of a major electrification programme stretching to 2030 has been launched by Latvijas dzelzceļš (Latvian Railways, LDZ).

Earlier this month the tender process began for a major package of works, which will see the Daugavpils–Krustpils, Rēzekne-Krustpils and Krustpils-Riga lines electrified by the end of 2023.

The procurement covers the construction or reconstruction of: the lines’ power supply systems, contact line systems, alarm systems, centralisation and blocking, communication systems, railway, technical security systems, buildings and structures.

Total costs for Phase 1 of the electrification programme is expected to reach €441 million, but the procurement amount is only for €425 million.

Of the total costs, €347 million has been provided by the European Union Cohesion Fund and €94 million by LDZ.

The deadline for submissions is September 20.
