AnsaldoBreda has won a 10-year €250 million contract to maintain Italy’s new high-speed train, the Frecciarossa 1000.

The Italian rail company, which developed the train alongside Bombardier, will provide preventative, first-level and corrective maintenance for the fleet of 50 eight-car units ordered by Ferrovie dello Stato.

The high-speed electric-multiple unit (EMU), which is expected to be put into service on the Rome-Milan corridor by Trenitalia in 2015, is certified for speeds up to 360 km/h but is capable of 400 km/h running.

Maintenance will be carried out at Trenitalia depots in Naples and Milan.
