Baku Metro takes delivery of new trains

Alstom and Transmashholding have delivered three new metro trains to Baku Metro in the capital of Azerbaijan.

The five-car trains, which were manufactured at by Metrovagonmash in Russia, will enter passenger service by the end of May 2015.

The new Russian gauge trainsets will be the first in Azerbaijan with connecting gangways.

In 2010, Baku Metro published a 20-year development programme approving the construction of 53 new stations and an additional 84.3 kilometres of railway. By 2028, 1,100 metro cars will be replaced and additional trains will be procured to operate on the new lines.
