Tutor Perini, Zachry and Parsons have been awarded a $985 million contract to design and build the first stretch of California’s new high-speed rail line.

The joint venture was announced as the project’s preferred bidder in April for the Madera-Fresno segment of the $69 billion network.

Local press reports from California have stated that the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s board voted 6-0 in favour of awarding the works to the Tutor Perini-led JV.

The winning bid was the cheapest of the proposals submitted, coming in $100 million less than its nearest competition.
