Construction to start on second Dammam-Riyadh rail freight line

Listen to this article

Chairman of Saudi Railways, Mohamed Swaiket, has signed a SAR 392 million (€78 million) contract to double track a section of the Dammam-Riyadh rail freight line.

The first phase, which should be completed within the next two years, covers the double-tracking of a 214-kilometre stretch of the route [not pictured], which connects the capital with the Persian Gulf port city of Dammam.

The Government of Saudi Arabia said the new line will allow freight operators to run longer and more frequent services between the two cities. The project will also increase the line speed to 150 km/h.
