German operator DB Regio has ordered an additional 12 Twindexx Vario trains to serve passengers in the country’s Main-Spessart region.

The new vehicles are part of a framework agreement signed in December 2008 with Bombardier which has already seen DB order 290 double-deck trains from the rolling stock manufacturer.

An order for 12 more units, valued at 113 million euros, was agreed in March.

With a top speed of 160 km/h, the trains will operate between the towns of Bamberg, Würzburg, Aschaffenburg and Frankfurt.

Delivery of the trains will begin in the second half of 2015.
