MTR has completed tunnelling on the drill-and-blast section of the high-speed Express Rail Link (XRL) in Hong Kong.
Lining and track-laying is now underway between Ngau Tam Mei and Tai Kong Po. The 2.6-kilometre tunnel is the final section of drill-and-blast excavation work to be undertaken for the project.
MTR had planned to complete the Hong Kong section of the new high-speed railway to Guangzhou and Shenzhen this year.
Flood damage has delayed the schedule by two years and pushed up the cost from HKD $62.4 billion to HKD $71.52 billion.
