Irish Rail reunites Twitter dog with owner

Listen to this article

Irish Rail harnessed the power of Twitter to return home a lost dog that boarded one of its early morning trains to Dublin.

Rail workers posted a message on Twitter with a photo of Patch who ended up 20 miles from home after hopping onto the 6.49am commuter train in Kilcock on Wednesday.

The message was quickly retweeted 500 times and just over half-an-hour later, Patch’s owner Deidre Anglin contacted the train operator, tweeting back “That’s my dog!”.

After arriving in Dublin, Patch was handed over to staff at Pearse Street station who named him Checker and began the online search for his owner.

The story of Patch’s adventure has now gone around the globe.

After he was returned home, Deidre tweeted: “Thanks to everyone involved in getting Patch back to us.”
