Final construction works are underway on a major station regeneration programme in the Polish city of Katowice.
Work has been ongoing to complete the redevelopment programme since the temporary railway station opened in October 2012.
Now, contractors are delivering the finishing touches to platform shelters, passenger information systems and lifts and escalators ahead of the scheduled completion date of August 2013.
The first two stages of the mixed-use complex have already been completed – the railway station opened in October 2012 and the underground bus station started handling over a dozen public bus lines in February 2013.
The project also includes the new Galeria Katowicka shopping mall.
Opening in September, the shopping hub will include 53,000 sqm of retail space and 250 stores.
Agata Brzezińska, country manager at Neinver Poland, said: “Almost five five years after signing the agreement, we are nearing the completion of [the] Galeria Katowicka construction process.
“Its opening is bound to enhance the Silesian capital’s retail offer but also, most importantly, to make travelling in the city and the whole region more convenient.
“Although there are still several months left before our flagship investment opens its gates, now is the final call for prospective tenants to decide whether they want to have their stores in Galeria Katowicka as we are about to run out of empty units very soon.”
