Officials visit Maribyrnong River rail bridge site

Victoria’s transport minister visited the Maribyrnong River site to see how work was progressing on the new rail bridge.

Part of the $5.3 billion Regional Rail Link project, the bridge will extend for almost a kilometre from South Kensington to Footscray – south of the existing railway crossing.

Regional Rail Link will include 90 kms of new track between Southern Cross station, in Melbourne’s Docklands, and West Werribee, as well as the construction of two new stations.

The investment will massively increase capacity on Melbourne’s rail network.

Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said: “Importantly, this nation-building project is part of the unprecedented $6.8 billion this Federal Labor Government is investing in renewing and rebuilding Victoria’s road, rail and public transport infrastructure.

“In fact we have more than doubled annual infrastructure spending from $89 to $201 per Victorian.”

The Maribyrnong River rail bridge is one of 35 bridges and structures being constructed or modified across the project, in addition to the removal of two level crossings on Anderson Road, Sunshine.
