Queensland Rail to introduce raft of new services in 2014

Queensland Rail has announced a considerable ‘overhaul’ of its timetable which will add more than 200 extra daily services from 2014.

More trains will mean extra peak Gold Coast services, more peak Shorncliffe services and a 50 per cent increase in services at Cleveland line stations – among other additions.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said: “When Queensland Rail doubled the off-peak frequency on the Ferny Grove line we saw passenger numbers increase.

“Queensland Rail has now done the work over the past 18 months to find the saving to deliver a timetable that gets the maximum use out of our existing rolling stock and infrastructure in both the peak and weekday off-peak.”

Queensland’s entire fleet will be used to deliver the new services, but there are plans to procure 75 new five-car trains as part of the New Generation Rolling Stock programme.
