Skoda signs tram license deal with China

Å koda Transportation has inked a deal with CSR Sifang for the production of 400 ForCity trams.

The contract, which could be worth as much as CZK5 billion, provides Skoda Transportation with a a 10-year license to manufacture the vehicles.

Thomas KrÅ¡ek, chairman of Å koda Transportation, said: “China currently has an elaborate plan for investment in the public transport sector. Therefore, the local market [is] very interesting for us.”

The ForCity tram features a swivel chassis and is already in operation in Prague and Riga.
