Listen to this article

The UAE’s Union Railway has appointed a Parsons-Systra joint venture (JV) as the project management consultant and Parsons Brinckerhoff as the preliminary engineering services consultant for an AED40bn ($11bn) rail project in the region.

US-based Parsons and France’s Systra JV will implement phase zero of the project, which includes the Shah Habshan Ruwais railway and part of the next two phases.

The next phase includes a railway covering Abu Dhabi and Dubai, while the final phase will connect the Northern Emirates.

Upon completion of the projects, Union Railway said there will be a 1,500km freight and passenger rail network built across the UAE.

Parsons-Systra’s role as the PMC also includes supervision of the preliminary engineering work for the first two phases of the project.

Parsons Brinckerhoff will finalise the concept, preliminary design and the tender documents for the construction work.
