Plans for new footbridge at East Croydon Station

Listen to this article

A £20 million footbridge at East Croydon Station will create a new link between businesses and communities on the east and west sides of the railway if plans for it are approved by the borough council. It would be amongst the first phases of the East Croydon master plan to be delivered and a key stepping stone to providing a more efficient transport interchange.

The bridge would be located towards the London end of the platforms and provide an alternative entrance for those travelling to and from the centre of Croydon, with customer information and retail facilities down its spine. It would also enable passengers to change platforms without having to use the busy ramps and concourse area. Lifts would be installed for those with reduced mobility.

It is hoped that work can begin early in 2012 with phase one likely to be complete by the end of 2013.
