Deutsche Bahn (DB) has asked Bombardier to supply 29 new Talent 2 electrical-multiple units (EMU) for the S-Bahn Mitteldeutschland commuter rail service.

The order is the 13th call-off of a €1 billion framework agreement signed in 2007 between the national rail operator and Bombardier.

Dr Rudiger Grube, chief executive of DB, said: “This investment is contributing to our continued modernisation of rolling stock for the benefit of our customers.

“We are preparing the company for the future while improving our competitive position.”

The 19 three-car and 10 five-car trains will begin revenue service from autumn 2016.
