The rail industry is pulling together for the 2012 Olympics by running longer trains at an increased frequency and later into the evening to make sure everyone can get to and from the Olympics next summer.
With an estimated additional 8 million people expected to use the rail network during the 2012 Games, the rail industry has put together a timetable that includes more than 2,200 extra services during the Olympic Games and more than 1,600 additional services during the Paralympic Games.
There will also be earlier starts to services on some routes along with late evening trains out of London to major cities.
Spectators will also benefit from the the recent completion of upgrade works on the Clapham Junction and Richmond to Stratford route which now sees four trains an hour, increasing the total number of trains between Willesden Junction and Stratford to eight an hour during peak times.
As a contingency measure, in case some events run later than planned, a number of standby trains will also be on hand at some London terminus stations.
The Victoria line will have also have eliminated all old stock by 2012. There’s 67 stock remaining in service at the moment, giving passengers a quicker and quieter journey on this important route.
Network Rail is also playing its part by suspending all major engineering work on routes serving Olympic venues during the Games.
