Seminar to be held by IMechE focusing on sustainable railways

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers are holding a one day seminar concerning ‘Trains & Systems for Sustainable Railways.’ The seminar is due to be held on Thursday 17th February 2011.

The aim of the seminar is to stress that when reviewing train systems there is a need for a sustainable approach. The seminar looks at new developments and initiatives, particularly following the coalition government’s direction to save costs and seek greater value for money in transport.

Presenters on the day include Professor Andrew McNaughton, Chief Engineer of HS2 and Simon Chung, Systems Performance Engineering Manager at London Underground. Along with others, they shall be presenting the latest thinking in train systems.

HS2 will be discussed in detail along with Energy Optimisation and Driver Advisory Speed Systems. Attendees will acquire the knowledge to reduce costs, improve capacity on UK rails and will receive practical advice.
