CNR reveals automated Beijing metro train

Listen to this article

Chinese rolling stock company CNR Corporation Limited has revealed the design of its new driverless metro train for Beijing.

The manufacturer is supplying 60 eight-car automated units for Yangfang Line of the Beijing subway system.

The stainless steel trains will be the first vehicles in mainland China to meet the GOA 4 unattended train operation (UTO) standard, allowing trains to operate without a driver or any onboard crew, using domestic suppliers.

Each train will be able to carry 1,262 passengers and achieve a maximum operating speed of 80 km/h.

CNR plans to deliver the first train in May 2015.
