Electric trains are now operating across the entire Auckland Transport rail network for the first time.

CAF electric multiple units (EMUs) have begun operating weekend services to Papakura on the Southern line and Swanson on the Western line.

Diesel units will continue to operate a connecting service between Papakura and Pukekohe, and bus services will operate between Swanson and Waitakere.

A full seven-day 25kV AC electric service will eventually run on both lines.

Spanish manufacturer CAF is supplying 57 trains for the city. The first train went into service in April 2014 on the Onehunga branch line.
