Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin has visited south Wales to see the completed £48 million project to replace the country’s historic Loughor Viaduct.

The project has included the redoubling a 5.25-mile segment of track through Gowerton near Swansea.

Mr McLoughlin was joined by Welsh Secretary David Jones, with the two viewing the completed £20 million viaduct, which has been delivered by Network Rail.

Patrick McLoughlin said: “Wales is benefitting from our programme of massive investment in the railways, the most significant infrastructure investment in Wales for decades.

“As well as cutting journey times and increasing capacity, this investment will drive economic growth in the country.”
